The modified Daniel Fast will restrict what a person eats and not when a person eats. The food items come from the grain, vegetable and fruit food groups. Beans and nuts may be eaten. Wheat and grains (brown rice and barley) are allowed. Pasta is eaten only if it is vegetable or whole-wheat pasta such as made of vegetables. Also, pure raw honey is included. The bread we eat is pita, grain, or wheat bread. Beverages consist of 100% fruit juice , water and/or herbal teas. Unsweetened soy milk and/or Almond Breeze etc. are allowed. However, regular teas and coffee are not allowed. In terms of dairy products, we did not eat cheese or eggs. Breakfast foods such as grits (ground corn) and oatmeal (ground oats) are allowable. Meat and poultry are not to be eaten. Fish is allowed during the fast (baked or broiled), however, shellfish is not. None of the above is to be fried. Foods may be prepared with all usual spices, herbs, butter, or olive oil. However, the items cannot be fried. Snacks and candy are not allowed. Jelly and dessert items are not allowed. Kool-aid and fruit flavored drinks are not allowed. White breads, which have no health value, are not allowed during the fast. As aforementioned, this is a modified Daniel Fast. First, the modified Daniel Fast is designed to promote disciplining of our souls and healthy eating habits in accordance to God’s word that we may be sensitive to His plan and purpose for our lives to live the abundant Life in Christ.
